Leap (とびこむ, Tobikomu?) is a recurring ability in the series. It has no recurring effect however.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy VI[]
Leap is a special command available for Gau on the Veldt where he can learn new Rages. Once an enemy formation is encountered (it does not have to be defeated), it will show up on the Veldt where Gau can then use Leap on them, causing him to leave the party and the battle will end. When the player keeps fighting enemies on the Veldt without Gau, he will eventually return at the end of a victorious battle with new Rages learned.
Gau cannot leap if he is the only party member, or if all other characters are considered defeated (KO, petrify, and/or zombie). Gau holds the sixth slot in a monster formation. There are quite a few monster formations that use this sixth slot, effectively preventing Gau from reappearing after that battle. Gau also will not reappear if the party already has four members, or if the battle was a back attack, side attack, or pincer attack. After a party of three or fewer wins a battle against a formation that would allow Gau to appear, he has a 5/8 chance of appearing when the last monster has been defeated.
When Gau leaps, he will obtain all the Rages he did not know yet from the monster formation of that particular battle, as well as from the monster formation of the battle in which he successfully rejoins the party. If Gau is harmed by the party when he is returning, he will run away, and will not learn the Rages of the monster formation of the battle he tried to return on.
Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-[]
Leap is a very fast and difficult to anticipate attack used by Crimson Hound and Guard Hound.
