Final Fantasy Wiki

The Lead Bolts are ammunition for crossbows in Final Fantasy XII. They have a chance of inflicting their target with Immobilize. Crossbows cannot be equipped without owning some kind of bolts. Owning the Lead Bolts means the player can use an unlimited amount, and bolts do not need a license to be equipped alongside a crossbow. The bolts are metallic for the purposes of the magnetize debuff present in the Vinuskar and Ultima boss battles.

Obtain[]

Original[]

The Lead Bolts are not sold in shops, but sell for 500 gil. They are found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's South Liavell Hills Map 04 Cerobi Steppe. The player can come here early with a chocobo from the Phon Coast.

The bolts are also a reward for completing the hunt "Shelled Obstruction" for the Darksteel.

Zodiac[]

The Lead Bolts set is sold for 1500 gil by the Baknamy merchant in the Necrohol of Nabudis after the events in Draklor Laboratory.

The Lead Bolts are found in a treasure in Lhusu Mines' Site 5 (90% chance to appear, 50% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Lead Bolts without the Diamond Armlet equipped), Pharos - Second Ascent's Station of Suffering (75% chance to appear, 60% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Lead Bolts without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in Trial Mode Stage 30 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

The bolts are still earned for completing the hunt for Darksteel.

Use[]

The Lead Bolts add 2 points to the crossbow's power and hold the Immobilize status, though it will not work on most bosses or hunt marks. The status has a 25% flat chance of working on a target who is not immune to Immobilize. By using the bolts, the player can save a turn from the Time Battlemage from using Immobilize. However, the status itself is not worth prioritizing over a stronger set of bolts.

As equipment can be swapped on-the-fly, the player could start the battle with the Lead Bolts and then swap to the stronger bolts as soon as the status is inflicted, or to another bolt set with a different ailment. This way the Time Battlemage can keep doing damage, and to keep inflicting new status ailments as well.

The bolts are only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using a Time Battlemage.
