Restores HP. It cannot be used in the field. Equip as an Add-on.

Description

The Lapis Lazuli is a jewel in Final Fantasy IX that everyone can equip as an add-on, which can also be used during battle as a healing item. It teaches Ability Up and Accuracy+. Amassing Lapis Lazulis in the inventory makes Ark stronger when summoned even if the jewel itself does not teach Ark.

Obtain[]

A Lapis Lazuli is found behind the fountain during the visit to Alexandria Castle AlexandriaCastleCourtyard2Day after the party returns from the Outer Continent. Another is found inside a chest in Self-Proclaimed Artist's house in Lindblum LindblumStudio during the time the party is looking for potions for Cid.

Lost continent crack

Mountain crack treasure location.

Forty-one Lapis Lazulis are found by using a Dead Pepper at a mountain crack on the eastern part of Lost Continent, accessed after the player advances in Chocobo Hot and Cold until Dead Peppers are available after the player has the Blue Narciss. They can then beach the boat at the Lost Continent, call for Choco from the nearby foot prints with a Gysahl Green, and find the mountain crack.

Lapis Lazulis drop from and are stolen from Steiner (Mirror) and Dagger (Mirror). The player can farm them by bringing Steiner and/or Dagger to Oeilvert.

A Lapis Lazuli is also a part of the friendly monsters sidequest. One is obtained by giving the Friendly Feather Circle a Moonstone on the Lost Continent, but the player then needs to give the Lapis Lazuli to the next friendly monster to progress the quest.

In the end of the game, Lapis Lazulis are synthesized in Black Mage Village and at the Legendary Synthesis Shop hidden in the final dungeon for 400 gil, an Ore, and a Dead Pepper. Eiko can manufacture endless Ores with Jewel while Dead Peppers are earned from playing Chocobo Hot and Cold.

Mechanics[]

The Lapis Lazuli can be used as an item during battle, to restore HP equivalent to the total stock of Lapis Lazulis x100. Jewels are the only healing items that work on Zombiefied/undead targets. It can be an excellent healing item, but is unaffected by Chemist and cannot be used while in the field.

Holding onto many Lapis Lazulis makes Arks summon attack stronger; Eternal Darkness attack power = 106 + No. of Lapis Lazulis.

Use[]

The Lapis Lazuli is useful for learning Ability Up and Accuracy+, and for powering up Ark, though it is already strong in its own right.

As jewels do not grant stats, the player should unequip them after mastering the abilities they hold. The Lapis Lazuli is also a very powerful healing item the player can use mid-battle.

Etymology and origin[]

Lapis lazuli, sometimes abbreviated to lapis, is a deep blue semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. It is the birthstone for December. The jewels are based on real life birthstones. As such, when equipping as an add-on and if the player has all twelve jewels in their inventory (minus Ore), the jewels are listed in the same order as the birthstones where each gemstone represents a month.
