The Lancer is a great mid-range fighter that specializes in the use of Lances. Its piercing damage allows the job to take advantage of many enemy weaknesses and is one of the best Basic Jobs to manage their Break gauges. In addition to the Lancer's natural range, its passives grant improved recovery speed, increased damage upon exploiting enemy weaknesses, and better Lightbringer duration.
[Attack Type: Pierce] [Stat Bonus: Agility] Throw your lance at distant enemies and deal pierce damage. Hold to charge your attack. The longer the charge, the more powerful the throw.
[Any Link] Can be set to any link ability slot.
The Lancer makes use of the ability Lance Hurl, which allows the player to hurl their spear at enemies from afar, growing more powerful with each charge. This can serve well to those who wish to deal physical damage in spite of range.
Provided the player has the mastery passive, this ability can even finish enemies with a soul burst upon landing a fully charged Lance Hurl.
Evade with a swift backstep. Fills break gauge on activation.
The Lancer obtains the Swayback support ability which causes the player character to evade by sliding backwards whilst remaining invincible and recovering the break gauge. This support ability is excellent when using the soul shield for extended amounts of time, resulting in a net gain in MP management.
As per its name, the Lancer is centered around the use of Lances, serving as an introduction to its playstyle and is a great means of keeping distance while exploiting enemy weaknesses by its unique trait of dealing all three types of physical damage: Strike, Slash, and Pierce. The combo effects thereof focus on increasing the character's charge and attack speed, as well as increasing the break damage further.
Partial unlock for the Dragoon Job. Also requires a similar ability in the Marauder Job Tree.

Gameplay[]
The Lancer specializes in long-range melee combat that can become a jack-of-all-trades to adjust to different enemy weaknesses on the fly. It's evasive playstyle can help parties at earlier levels keep up the damage on normal enemies and bosses while still maintaining distance and survivability.
Strengths[]
Versatile. The Lancer can be a flexible job in terms of damage output with its use of lances.
Agile Combat. the Lancer can be both an offensive and evasive force in combat with its job action and unique ability to block attacks with its Vanguard's Soul affinity bonus.
Weaknesses[]
Innate Defenses. The Lancer provides lower Stamina and Spirit than other jobs, leading to more punishment upon being hit by enemy attacks.
Unspecialized. Other jobs such as Dragoon or Breaker can render the Lancer as redundant due to better stat growth and weapon repertoire.
Stats[]
The Lancer gives a stat bonus to Strength and Agility, giving the character more physical damage and general break damage upon landing a critical hit.
Monk probably remains the most popular support job at any level. The Monk's stats compliment Lancers well and provide a moderate boost in total HP and means of quick attacks in melee combat. In addition, the Monk's Focus ability is useful for total damage output and damage mitigation.
Marauder is an excellent job to synergize with Lancer for those who prefer to pack more damage with follow up on openings created by a Lancer's wallsplatting capabilities with its charged attacks. With the Marauder's job classes, it can even play a supplementary role to provide additional HP and MP with each strike.
The Breaker can pair well with the Lancer job with the Zantetsuken Mastery ability. Along with the Lancer's Relentless Champion class, This job can rip through defenses and deal massive damage to enemies and break them much easier.
