The Lamia Queen, also known as Brand Lamia, is an undead enemy in Final Fantasy V found at the Pyramid of Moore.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Lamia Queen uses Entice, which confuses a target to attack themselves and party members, and the Blue Magic spell 1000 Needles. As an undead monster, she is susceptible to the Requiem song, which will easily deal several thousand points of damage. Level 5 Death restores her to full health, but Level 4 Graviga and Level 2 Old work. She is susceptible to petrify.

The powerful defensive headgear Thornlet that drains the HP of the wearer may rarely be stolen from Lamia Queens. They also sometimes drop Lamia's Tiara, which boosts the occurrence of Sword Dance when worn by Dancers.

Etymology[]

In Greek mythology, Lamia was a beautiful Libyan queen who turned into a child-eating demon. She is often referred to as having the lower half of a snake and sometimes a large mouth (lamia in Greek means "large shark", while laimos means gullet).

Later characteristics attributed to her are similar to that of succubi, in that the lamia seduces men, enticing them to feed on their blood. It is said they reside in towers or secluded areas and have magical abilities.
