Laguna is a one-of-a-kind Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Laguna is the hundred and second card in the inventory and the third Level 10 card. It depicts Laguna Loire who is playable in the party's dreams. It has one of the best Card Mod outcomes of any card.

As a Level 10 Player Card, Laguna has good values with a 9 and an A, which represents the value 10 for the minigame and is unbeatable without special rules. Its value placements may also be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.

Ellone holds Laguna's card.

Laguna's card is held by Ellone in the Lunar Base, who plays with the notoriously difficult Lunar region rule set of every rule. There is only a small window of opportunity to challenge Ellone. After the events at the Lunar Base, the player can never play cards with Ellone again.

Winning Laguna card in space with all the rules from FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered

  • The player can save at the med bay before playing Ellone. If losing too many rare cards, the player can reset and try again.
  • It is likely that a rule will be abolished after 1–3 games are loaded (one doesn't actually have to play the game), so the player can reload the game until one's least favored rule is removed. It is best not to continue with Open abolished.
  • If struggling with the Random rule, using the Card Mod ability to convert all low level cards into items leaves a higher probability of the player's higher level cards being selected.
  • If the player gets first turn, they can play a card with poor values to a corner that is possible to take back from both sides. When the CPU takes the card, the player can take it back while making sure the CPU can't Plus/Same it from the middle.
  • It is advised to defend the corners and block the possibility of combos for the CPU.
  • If the CPU sets up for a Same/Plus, it is advised to block this while taking care not to set up another combo for them.
  • If the game is heading to a draw, the player should try not to lose any high value cards to the CPU as it will play them next round instead.

If the player completed the Card Club quest before the point of no return (fighting the boss atop the Lunatic Pandora), the club members will appear aboard the Ragnarok in the endgame, from whom the player can win all Level 8–10 cards they do not currently hold in their deck, even the cards they had modified before. This also allows the player to modify the Laguna card and then win it back.

Card Mod[]

The Laguna card refines into 100 Heroes with Quezacotl's Card Mod. This is an amazing item that renders one party member temporarily invincible. Modding Laguna's card is the only viable way to get Heroes, apart from as a rare spoil from Seifer. If the player wants an easier time against the late game bosses and superbosses, they can modify Laguna's card to an essentially inexhaustible supply of invincibility. The Gilgamesh card becomes Holy Wars that make the entire party invincible, but Heroes may be preferable so the party won't all lose the status at the same time. Completing the CC quest before endgame lets the player get the Heroes from Laguna's card and still get the card back.
