Book detailing knighthood's moral code. Causes the bearer to cover critically wounded allies.

Description

Knight's Code, also known as True Knight,[1][2] is a relic in Final Fantasy VI. It causes the wearer to cover other party members whose HP is low (and when they are in critical condition).

Obtained[]

Knight's Code can be bought for 1,000 gil in the World of Balance at South Figaro, Jidoor, and Narshe (before obtaining the Blackjack), and in Albrook in the World of Ruin, and can be found as treasure at Returner Hideout.

Mechanics[]

When an enemy targets a critical party member with a physical strike, the Knight's Code wearer well step in to take the damage themselves. The cover effect of the relic will not activate if the wearer is under the petrify, invisible, zombie, sleep, confuse, stop, frozen, chanting, or hidden status, or if the critical character is under the invisible status.

When multiple party members are equipped with the Knight's Codes, they will all cover the same target, and only one of the covering party members will take the damage.

Use[]

Knight's Code is a useful way for tougher party members to protect weaker allies. The caveat is that it cannot solely be relied on to protect critical party members, as it only protects against targeted physical attacks; though this constitutes a lot of enemy attacks, it does not protect party members from magic attacks or physical attacks that hit the entire party. Nonetheless, it is an effective protective relic, allowing tougher party members to provide more broad-based protection.

Among party members well-suited to equip Knight's Code are those with naturally high HP, or high Defense provided by their armor. Sabin is an excellent choice due to his naturally high HP and Stamina, while Celes, Edgar, and Umaro also make strong choices.

Knight's Code combines well with Black Belt, which gives party members a chance to counterattack. This allows a party member to cover critical party members, and then respond with an attack of their own, potentially greatly increasing their physical damage output. Despite most of Sabin's damage being magical, his naturally high Strength makes him well-suited for this combo, while Celes and Edgar's strong weapon selection also makes them suitable; Umaro is also a decent choice, but doing so prevents him equipping one of his other stronger relics. Knight's Code also combines well with defensive relics, such as Mythril Glove and Muscle Belt.

Knight's Code becomes somewhat less valuable later in the game. This is less because the effect of Knight's Code diminishes in value, and more because of top tier relics competing for slots. As armor and greater curative spells become available, it may be better to use more offensive relics instead.

Etymology[]

Knight's Code is another name for chivalry. Chivalry, or the chivalric code, is a code of conduct associated with the medieval institution of knighthood.
