Greetings, adventurer. I'm Kipih Jakkya, reporter for The Raven. You have heard of Gridania's leading tabloid, I trust?

Kipih Jakkya

Kipih Jakkya is a character from Final Fantasy XIV, first appearing in version 1.0 as a gamemaster-controlled character and then in A Realm Reborn as a non-player character.

She is a reporter for the Gridanian magazine The Raven, usually being involved in some special events. Kipih is also the elder sister of Nhagi'a Jakkya, a 16-year-old new adventurer.

History[]

Final Fantasy XIV (version 1.0)[]

Kipih served as a reporter during the Sixth Astral Era. She began her reporting job as the arrival of the next Calamity began. She reported on the happenings around Eorzea and interviewing adventurers about the coming Umbral Era. As voidsent began appearing at aetheryte camps and the war with Garlemald reaching its climax, she feared Eorzea was no longer safe and wrote a final report.

Nearing those final days, she fled with her younger brother to Gridania's border where she was safe from the cataclysm Bahamut caused. She returned to Gridania following the elder primal's rampage, learning that some of her close friends and colleagues had perished, but continued to live on despite the hardships she faced.[1]

The Rising 2021[]

Kipih Jakkya told Warrior of Light that she was on the trail of some mysterious figure responsible for purchasing a suspicious amount of Nymeia lilies, and needed someone familiar with Ul'dah to help in her investigations.

In Quicksand, Momodi Modi said the description given reminded her of a request made by the infamous "Wandering Minstrel" involving the transportation of a sizable cargo for the Alchemists' Guild. In speaking with Guildmaster Severian, he recalled an assignment to process a large amount of floral material. The guildmaster then instructed them to speak to the guild receptionist, Deitrich, to get the details. Deitrich explained that the fruits of their labor would be distributed among the population along the Rising. If Kipih wanted to learn more, it would have to be from the minstrel himself.

Back in Quicksand, Kipih interviews the wandering minstrel. He insists that the Warrior of Light participate in his plan to distribute custom-made potpourri packets to the masses. After he finishes distributing the potpourri, Kipih shares his own memories of the Calamity. The exchange inspires the minstrel, who composes a verse dedicated to the continued safe passage of those still climbing the path of catastrophe and despair.[1]

Kipih Jakkya has informed Warrior of Light that her publication, The Raven, was asked to write an article to promote the exciting event underway at the Gold Saucer. She sought another perspective to add some spice to her report and asked Warrior of Light to accompany her to the Manderville Gold Saucer.[2]

Arriving at the Gold Saucer, they meet up with two other reporters who have been invited: Petyr Winsome of the Harbor Herald, and Dural Tharal of the Mythril Eye. Attendant Ollier explained that he wants each of them to write a piece exposing the charm of the place for their respective audiences. He then reveals that a mammet hunt has been organized for the guests, and that the reporter who finds the mammets of Godbert Manderville will get an exclusive interview with the owner of the Gold Saucer.[2]

To even the odds, the other two reporters team up and quickly set off to search their surroundings. Eager to win this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Kipih Jakkya suggests a strategy of splitting up with Warrior of Light and each looking in two different sections. After gathering three mammets, they return to report to Ollier. Ollier declares them the winners of the exclusive interview with Godbert Manderville.[2]

As promised, Ollier summoned Godbert Manderville to take a personal tour of the Gold Saucer. During the tour, Godbert told facts about the Gold Saucer that no one except Godbert himself knew and gained a new appreciation for the history of the place. Kipih Jakkya was more than pleased with the interview and was eager to begin her article. Before leaving, Godbert encourages the pair to visit Ollier to receive a special gift.[3]

Kipih Jakkya, was supposed to meet his brother Nhagi'a during the Rising celebration, but he didn't show up. Kipih asked Warrior of Light to help her find Nhagi'a. After investigating, they discovered that Nhagi'a was doing work for the Wandering Minstrel, who was organizing an exhibition called the letter forest, which displays letters of gratitude and encouragement written anonymously. To collect letters from outside Ul'dah, the man dispatched a chocobo carriage with Nhagi'a as an escort. However, the carriage was late.

Kipih and the Warrior of Light go in search of the carriage and Nhagi'a. Arriving at the location, they find the carriage being attacked by bandits and the Warrior of Light scares them off. When the brothers are reunited, Nhagi'a declares that he needs to get stronger to win Kipih's approval. Nhagi'a then heads to Ul'dah with the carriage to complete his delivery. Nhagi'a criticizes himself for needing his help to complete his task. His obsession with doing everything himself does not please Kipih, who declares that she can no longer allow him to be an adventurer. If he wanted to remain one, he should think about why he embarked on this path in the first place.[4]

At the Weavers' Guild, the siblings open their hearts to each other. Nhagi'a declares that he will no longer be obsessed with doing everything himself, having remembered why he became an adventurer. Relieved, Kipih takes the opportunity to remind him of how, as a boy, he told her that he simply wanted to be a free-spirited adventurer who traveled the world and helped those in need. Sad to see that boy go astray, Kipih spoke harshly, but it was never her intention to deny him his calling, and she supports him wholeheartedly now as he continues on his path. Nhagi'a reveals that he is leaving for Limsa Lominsa and joining an expedition and Kipih presents him with a new set of clothes.[5]
