Map of San d'Oria

The Kingdom of San d'Oria is a large and powerful nation in Final Fantasy XI. It is ruled in a monarchial style, by the great King Destin. His Heirs, Prince Trion and Prince Pieuje are constantly vying for their fathers attention so that they will inherit the kingdom.

A brief history

The Kingdom once spanned the entire world of Vana'diel, with only the Tarutaru of Windurst and the Humes of Bastok resisting in small enclaves. Eventually, the Windurstians and the Bastokians defeated the San d'Orians and regained their lands. This reached a climax at the Battle of the Second Konschtat, where the Bastokan Army, which was heavily outnumbered but was armed with muskets and advanced weaponry, crushed a much larger force of San d'Orian Light foot-soldiers and Royal Knights.

San d'Oria today

Today the kingdom is in the midst of turmoil. While peaceful on the outside, the political system is in the middle of a battle for power. The Hume minority pushes for greater rights, while the Elvaan Majority pushes for the humes to be rid of the land. The Orcs have overrun Fort Ghelsba and Davoi Monastery, making them into strongholds from which the orcs launch frequent excursions. The city itself is surrounded by hordes of orcs, and only brave adventurers dare to go through their lines to the outside world.

Looking towards the future

Economically the city is in a bit of a slump. While there are shops and auction houses abound, the Grand Duchy of Jeuno has gained the title of the center of trade. The San d'Orian Army has even been replaced as the largest by the Bastokan Army, which includes the famed Mythril Musketeers. However, the nation stays extremely proud. The army is still regarded the best in the world, and the people of the nation constantly tell themselves that, although the golden age of the Elvaan has ended, the lion that is San d'Oria is only sleeping and shall one day regain the title of the greatest nation of Vana'diel.
