Kefka (Final Fantasy VI party member)

Kefka has several sets of data for him as a party member in Final Fantasy VI. These are used for when Kefka is fought as a cinematic enemy and he uses his field sprite in the battle, and also for two occasions where Kefka appears in an in-battle cutscene.

Functionality

These "Kefka" party members have no commands assigned to them; if the player hacks the game to put any of them in the party, the game will freeze on their turn. They have full stats, equipment, and relics. Kefka is assigned to slot 16 in the party when he appears in battle. Just like temporary characters, if Kefka is hacked into the player's party they will be unable to remove his equipment.

The one instance of an in-battle scene where Kefka is not treated as a party member is during the event on Floating Continent where he confronts Emperor Gestahl; this is because the scene does not contain any sort of battle, it is strictly a cutscene, so Kefka's data is loaded differently.

Set 41

The first set of data, party member 41, is used for Kefka when he appears in Terra's flashback when she collapses in the Narshe Mines. Terra engages three Imperial Soldiers while wearing Magitek armor and automatically attacks one, after which Kefka appears in a suit of Magitek armor and speaks before the battle ends.

Set 41 is also used in the Imperial Camp when Sabin fights Kefka on two separate occasions. Kefka is equipped with a Morning Star, Mythril Helm, Mythril Vest, and Ribbon.

Set 42

Set 42 is used for two scenes at the Cave to the Sealed Gate. The party confronts Kefka as a cinematic enemy and the battle ends as soon as Kefka is attacked. The second scene begins as soon as the battle screen appears, and espers swarm past the party and carry Kefka away. His equipment is the same as in the Imperial Camp: a Morning Star, Mythril Helm, Mythril Vest, and Ribbon.

Set 43

Set 43 is used for a scene in Thamasa where Kefka fights an unnamed esper, a palette swap of Ifrit. The esper attacks Kefka with Fire, Fira and Firaga, before Kefka kills them and turns them into magicite. Kefka is equipped with a Morning Star, a Paladin's Shield, and a Ribbon; because of the Paladin's Shield he will block or absorb all of the esper's attacks.
