Karnak Meteorite, also called Karnak Meteor, is a location in Bartz's world in Final Fantasy V. It is located just west to the town of Tule, across the ocean and southeast of Karnak. The party first arrives here by using the teleportation pad located in the Walse Meteorite.

History[]

After the Karnak Meteorite crashed, several monsters crawled out of it and came to Karnak, including a werewolf[1][2] named Tsuze who came to protect the fire crystal.[3] Bartz Klauser and the party later used the teleporter from Walse Meteorite to travel to Karnak themselves, but appearing from the same meteorite as Tsuze led to them being be accused of guilt by association.[1][2]

After the earth crystal shattered and Galuf Halm Baldesion returned to his planet, the party revisited the meteorite together with Cid and Mid Previa to obtain some adamantite. In order to do so, the party first had to defeat Titan in battle. As a bonus for their victory, they were then able to summon him.

Gameplay[]

Once Walse Meteorite can be accessed (after completing Walse Tower), the teleporter within grants immediate access to the Karnak Meteorite. The player can then use the two to travel back-and-forth at any time on Bartz's world.

Later, the Karnak Meteorite is visited to obtain adamantite after first meeting Cid and Mid at the Tycoon Meteorite. Here, Titan is fought as a boss. Titan is relatively easy to defeat, though the player must ensure they can survive his attacks, meaning they need to stay above ~500 HP. Once defeated, Titan can be summoned, and the player must obtain adamantite from the remaining meteorites.

Etymology[]

A meteorite is a solid piece of debris, from such sources as asteroids or comets, that originates in outer space and survives its impact with the Earth's surface. It is called a meteoroid before its impact.

In the pre-GBA localizations they were known as meteors. A meteor or "shooting star" is the visible streak of light from a meteoroid or micrometeoroid, heated and glowing from entering the Earth's atmosphere, as it sheds glowing material in its wake. Meteors rarely explode in the Earth's atmosphere. The term has become associated with quickness with the adjective "meteoric". In the context of myth and superstition, meteors and comets sighted in Ancient and Medieval Europe were once held as ill omen, said to be the message of the heavens' displeasure of man's affairs to herald grave catastrophes.

Pieces that withstand atmospheric ablation are known as meteorites, but the name of the spell in the series refers to the overall phenomenon.

Seeing that meteor refers to a piece that does not withstand atmospheric entry, the meteors were renamed meteorites to the GBA and following versions of Final Fantasy V.
