It is difficult in both the Famicom/NES and DS versions due to being able to inflict both Poison and Blind with its physical attacks, and attacking in groups of 2, 3, or 4. Physical attacks are more than enough in dispatching them.

Etymology
Kage is Japanese for "shadow". A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object. It occupies all of the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it.
