Kadokawa logo

Kadokawa are a Japanese multimedia company. They own several brands and companies in the video games, manga, and light novel industries. Their beginnings in the industry were with the Kadokawa Shoten (角川書店, Kadokawa Shoten?) publishing company. Kadokawa Shoten had early interaction with the Final Fantasy series with its licensed manga and novelizations at a time where Square was more open with its property.

Famitsu[]

Enterbrain is a subsidiary of Kadokawa, and Enterbrain purchased the Famitsu brand from ASCII Corporation in March 2000. The Famitsu brand is used for magazines and other game-related books including novels.

Dengeki[]

MediaWorks (now ASCII Media Works after merging wtih ASCII Corporation) is a subsidiary of Kadokawa and owner of the Dengeki brand. The Dengeki brand is used for magazines and other game-related books.

Media Factory[]

Media Factory was purchased by Kadokawa Corporation in October 2011. Though Media Factory have previously worked with the Final Fantasy brand, they have not since Kadokawa's purchase.

Yen Press[]

In April 11, 2016, Yen Press became a joint venture of Hachette Book Group and Kadokawa, with Kadokawa owning the majority share. Yen Press publish English-translated manga and light novels to a western audience.
