Jury-Rigged Cutter is a boss in Final Fantasy VII Remake. It is a mecha deployed fought as part of the "Shears' Counterattack" odd job in Chapter 9, "The Town That Never Sleeps", in Corneo Colosseum. The player faces it when doing Madam M's quests for Cloud's dress. It can also be fought as part of the "Two-Person Team vs. Team Payback" round in Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope".

Stats[]

Battle[]

The Jury-Rigged Cutter is a unique and more powerful variant of the Cutter. Much like its counterpart, it can easily knock the player down as they slide and spin, interrupting character actions, becoming more aggressive, as well as harder to stagger again. Its Buzzsaw Blitz has it charge upon a player character with both saws spinning. If the player is too far from the Jury-Rigged Cutter for it to attack, it sends out projectile saw blades.

When pressured, its upper body will lay flat on the ground for a few seconds. The Jury-Rigged Cutter can energize itself with Berserk Berserk a few times during battle, growing stronger but also taking more damage in return. Much like all the mechanical enemies, the Jury-Rigged Cutter is weak to Lightning Lightning.

Strategy[]

Cloud should equip the Lightning Materia Lightning Materia, preferably paired with Elemental Materia Elemental Materia in his weapon. Cloud can stagger the cutter by casting Thundara Thundara, or using character abilities. When the cutter becomes berserked is a good time to cast lightning spells. The enemy's melee attacks should be dodged or countered through Punisher Mode. In particular, using Focused Thrust can build its stagger gauge.

Hard Mode[]

On the hard difficulty, the Jury-Rigged Cutter will use its abilities more often and will turn around faster when the player attacks from behind, and will be even more aggressive when sent in a rampage. The Jury-Rigged Cutter is the final combat challenge in the chapter, so all MP can be spent here. In addition to Lightning with Elemental materia, Steadfast Block Materia Steadfast Block Materia and Parry Materia Parry Materia are useful, allowing Cloud to remain in Punisher Mode and stay defensive, and with Parry, dodge-roll while remaining in Punisher Mode, as well using Counterstance. The player can cast Regen Regen as the match begins, and Haste Haste is also useful. As before, Thundara helps, though another effective strategy is to rely on well-timed Counterstance to deal heavy damage while also reducing damage taken.
