Extracts Ore from a target.

Description

Jewel is a White Magic spell from Final Fantasy IX used by Eiko. It extracts a single Ore item from an enemy for the cost of 4 MP. The spell can be used repeatedly. Jewel bypasses Reflect but would work with Return Magic were enemies to use it on the player party, but none do (and it does not work on the player's own party, anyway).

Obtain[]

Jewel is learned for 50 AP through the Hamelin, bought from Esto Gaza and Daguerreo before going through the Shimmering Island portal. The earliest the player can use it by buying the Hamelin after the events in Desert Palace and then waiting until after the events in Mount Gulug to equip it to Eiko.

Mechanics[]

Using Jewel gains an Ore should the spell succeed. It can be used repeatedly on the same enemy. The spell fails if cast on allies.

Afterward, two randomly generated values determine if the spell will hit:

A random number 0...99 >= Chance, the spell misses its mark
A random number 0...99 < Target Magic Evade, the target evades

Accuracy is halved by the target's Shell and Eiko being under Mini.

In Eiko's Trance, her Wht Mag command becomes Dbl Wht and she can use two spells in one go; both castings expend from her MP and Trance gauge separately.

Use[]

Ore is a plentiful enough item drop from enemies to the point the player likely has enough of a stash to last til endgame even if they do use them as healing items. The main boon of amassing Ore is that the more the player has in the inventory, the better Dagger's Odin summon becomes. To get to 99 Ores with Jewel to strengthen Odin could take a while, but the player could simply stay in the same battle to repeatedly use Jewel on a lone enemy until they max out their stock, giving Eiko Auto-Haste.

It is, however, useful to mine Ore from enemies once the player has access to Daguerreo, in whose synthesis shop the player to combine Ore plus another item to generate special jewels, which can increase the power of summons for both Eiko and Dagger. The following synthesis are possible:
