Prevents Petrify and Gradual Petrify.
Description
Jelly is a support ability in Final Fantasy IX that every permanent party member can learn. It prevents Petrify and Gradual Petrify from taking effect for the cost of 4 Magic Stones.
Obtained[]
Jelly is learned from numerous equipment pieces for variable amounts of AP; Amarant learns it the fastest at 15 AP, while Dagger learns it the slowest at 40 AP. Equipping multiple equipment pieces that all teach Jelly, masters the ability faster.
Jelly is learned from numerous equipment pieces, but one of the easiest and the earliest for everyone but Steiner and Freya is from the Bronze Vest found in Lindblum outside the pub and in Gizamaluke's Grotto, and also sold in shops around this time. Freya and Steiner can easiest learn Jelly from the Mythril Armor, stolen from Thorn and available in shops after the party returns from the Outer Continent.
Use[]
With Jelly, the character will be immune to petrifying abilities, a useful ability to have as petrification disables the afflicted entirely and flags them as defeated for Game Over purposes. Good places to equip it for are in Burmecia, Oeilvert, and Ipsen's Castle, as well as against the final boss. However, petrifying attacks are mostly used by stone-type enemies, who are instantly defeated by simply using a Soft on them, leaving them little time to petrify the party.
Petrify and Gradual Petrify persist after battle (Eiko with her Guardian Mog is an exception); equipping Jelly onto a character who already has an ailment does not cure it.
