Jane Proudfoot
Jane Proudfoot is a protagonist in the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. She is the only woman in the Deep Eyes squad, but capable of holding her own.
Story
Joining up with Aki
Jane is a very impulsive girl, who enjoys shooting up Phantoms and picking on Neil Fleming, a fellow member of the squad. Jane can always be found in the fray, donning all the heavy pieces of kit.
Jane accompanies Gray to arrest Aki when she's finding the sixth spirit. She doesn't consent to Neil's and Ryan Whittaker's plan to match up Aki and Gray, but doesn't stop them either. During the quest to retrieve the seventh spirit, she destroys a large Phantom almost single-handedly.

Death
When New York City is attacked by Phantoms, Jane operates the heavy turret on the car. When the Deep Eyes, Aki and Dr. Sid arrive in the hangar, Jane is tasked with finding new ovo-packs to replace the spent ones in Aki's ship. She returns to the ship with them, but not long after, she is required outside to cover Neil while he's manually disengaging the lock on the ship. Jane fends off a multitude of Phantoms single-handedly while Neil disengages the lock, but Neil gets killed by a Phantom sneak attack. Jane furiously shoots at the Phantom that killed Neil, but when she's out of ammo, she (despite Gray's orders to get out of there) turns off her headset and willingly allows the Phantom to kill her as well.
Relationship with Neil
It isn't quite clear what her relationship with Neil is. While she's picking on him a lot, she's also very loyal to him. Her willingness to die after Neil is killed may suggest she had feelings for him, but it may also be because of despair.
