Izanami (イザナミ, Izanami?) is a recurring weapon in the Final Fantasy series. It debuted as a bowsword for Serah Farron, capable of changing form between a bow for ranged physical damage and a sword for melee physical damage. In Lightning Returns, it functions purely as a sword, however.

Izanami is a strong weapon for Serah with 88 Strength and 110 Magic. It is part of the High HP: Power Surge synthesis group, which, when active, boosts Serah's damage when she has high HP. Izanami is bought for 12,000 gil from Chapter 5 onward.

Description

Izanami is a sword for a magic-focus schema that gives Strength +500 and Magic +2000. It is an endgame weapon, forged in the Jagd Village Forge and the Final Day Forge in Hard Mode. Though sharing the name with Serah's bowsword, Lightning's sword has a completely different appearance and appears as a short-sword with a stained glass blade. Instead of intending to be homage to Lightning's sister Serah, it may simply be a separate weapon that sources its name from the same mythology.

Etymology[]

[view · edit · purge]In Japanese mythology, Izanami-no-Mikoto, meaning "she who invites", is a goddess of both creation and death, as well as the former wife of the god Izanagi-no-Mikoto. She is also referred to as Izanami-no-kami.
