The name Ithuno may be a constructive combination of the words "item" and "Mimeo". It could also refer to the goddess Iðunn of Nordic mythology whose name is sometimes anglicized as Idun, Idunn or Ithun, who was responsible for the immortality of the gods, providing an apple a day from her ash-wood vault, which maintained youth and strength, and once was kidnapped and later rescued in the form of a nut by the god Loki. In ancient Greek, the verb ῑ̓θῡ́νω (īthū́nō) is an alternative form of εὐθύνω (euthúnō), which means "I straighten".

Ithuno has a 20% chance of spawning for every entry into the area. Upon entering Special Op Sector 5, Ithuno will be disguised as a treasure chest near the end of the area, behind a big rock on the train tracks (also near one of the Surianders and after the Adamantitan). If a chest appears there, one will know it is Ithuno if the bottom section of it is purple and the chest itself is silver (other chests in the area are green). Although the spawn rate is supposed to be 20% per entry, the player may need to enter the screen countless times until it appears.

The Deathbringer sword can be stolen from it. It is possible to get more than one if the player keeps spawning Ithuno.
