Etymology[]

Iris is the Greek word for the rainbow. The Greek goddess Iris carried messages via rainbow and linked the gods to humanity.

Iris is also the name of a flower.

In biology, the iris is the membrane of the eye that surrounds the pupil and helps it to contract or dilate depending on light received. In humans and some animals, the iris gives off a color unique to its bearer.
