Inferno (火炎流(かえんりゅう) or 火燕流(かえんりゅう), Kaenryū?, lit. Flame Stream), also localized as Scorch, is a recurring enemy ability in the series. It is usually Fire-elemental in nature, and usually targets one party member for massive damage. It is a specialty of Rubicante.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy[]

Scorch is an enemy ability exclusive to Rubicante from the Dawn of Souls remake and onward. It inflicts major fire-elemental damage to one party member.

From the original NES version to Origins, SCORCH or Scorch was the name given to the enemy ability used by Hellhounds. From Dawn of Souls onward, this ability was renamed to Blaze.

Final Fantasy IV[]

Inferno, previously known as Scorch, is first used by Rubicante and Flamehound, and later by Lunar Ifrit, Crystal Dragon, and Brachioraidos. It inflicts either moderate Fire-elemental damage to the party or major Fire-elemental damage to one party member, usually resulting in a KO.

Inferno is also usable as an augment in the 3D versions allowing anyone to learn the skill.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]

Rubicante uses Inferno as his trademark attack. It is also a Band ability learned in a cutscene battle with Rubicante before the player fights Ifrit. Inferno is usable by combining Rydia and Edge's abilities.

Dissidia Final Fantasy[]

The summon, Rubicante utilizes Inferno when summoned automatically. When an opponent summons a summon, Rubicante will be summoned and use Inferno which triples the player's Bravery.
