Using equipment that mitigates Fire damage is a good idea. The Black Mages should cast Blizzara while the Mystic Knights use Blizzara Sword. If the party has acquired her, Shiva will do a fair amount of damage.
Ifrit can be one-hit killed by using the Beastmaster's Catch and Release to a unleash Mani Wizard to cast Death (which is far unavailable to the party's Black Mages at this point). Despite its effectiveness, this method is quite elaborate as it requires backtracking to the Wind Shrine, and Ifrit is not that difficult of a boss for it to be worth the effort.

Ifrit (also spelled Efreet or Afreet, from Arabic عفريت Ifrīt), is the name given to a class of Jinn (Demons also known as Djinn, Djinni, and Genie) that embody fire. Though they could live for thousands of years, they were not immortal, and if cut, they would "bleed" the fire running through their veins until it consumed their bodies. In Arabian mythology,
