Icesparka is a magic ability for Lightning in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It is a compound ability that combines the Blizzara and Thundara spells, dealing magic ice and lightning-elemental damage to multiple foes. It is the upgraded form of the Icespark spell.

Obtained[]

Icesparka is one of the few magic abilities that does not have a garb exclusive version. It can only be obtained as a drop from the Schrodinger enemies with a 15% drop rate. The enemies drop different levels of the ability on the following days and difficulties:

Enemy Lv. 1 Lv. 2 Lv. 3 Lv. 4 Lv. 5
Schrodinger Day 7 - 9 (Easy/Normal) Day 10 - 13 (Easy/Normal) Day 1 - 6 (Hard) Day 7 - 12 (Hard) Day 13 (Hard)

Mechanics[]

When used, Lightning summons a pillar of ice and a barrage of bolts to strike the target, dealing five magic ice and lightning-elemental attacks to all enemies within a small radius. By default, Icesparka Lv. 1 has an ATB cost of 40, an attack power of 0.25 (1.25 in total), a Stagger Power of B, and a Stagger Time of E. When fully upgraded, Icesparka Lv. 5 at max has an ATB cost of 25, an attack power of 1.35 (6.75 in total), a Stagger Power of B, and a Stagger Time of E.

The Schrodinger and Schrodinger Ω enemies are the only foes that use Icesparka against Lightning.

Icesparka abilities can have the following passives:

Normal
  • Magic +150
  • Multiple Targets +20%
  • ATB Recovery +5
Rare
  • Multiple Targets +30% (Chaos variant drop)
  • Elemental Chaser (Synthesis only, 20%)

Use[]

Icesparka is useful when battling foes weak to both ice and lightning-elemental magic damage. Due to its multi-hitting and elemental affinity, Icesparka can easily increase the stagger waves of multiple targets when cast in quick succession. The spell is best equipped onto garbs with high magic oriented stats and ATB amounts.

Like Firestorma, Schrodingers will not drop Icesparka until after the first main scenario difficulty increase. Icesparka has some advantages when exploring most areas after the game's halfway point, due to enemies like Reavers and Meonektons being weak to both ice and lightning-elemental attacks. In addition, the ability is useful when fighting enemies weak to ice or lightning-elemental attacks, such as the Ectopuddings, Dreadnoughts, and Zomoks, especially if paired Imperil to lower the second element's resistance.

Its damage can also be increased by 20% - 25% if Lightning is equipped with the Coldflame Droplet or Thunderstorm Droplet accessories. Players cannot obtain these accessories until they defeat the specific Last Ones exclusive to the Final Day, making this strategy only viable in later playthroughs.
