The Icecloud Arrows are ammunition for bows in Final Fantasy XII. They make the bow-user deal ice damage, able to exploit favorable weather conditions and enemy weakness. Bows cannot be equipped without owning some kind of arrows. Owning the Icecloud Arrows means the player can use an unlimited amount, and arrows do not need a license to be equipped alongside a bow. The Icecloud Arrows is the penultimate arrow set, below the Artemis Arrows.
Obtain[]
Original[]
The Icecloud Arrows are not available in shops, but sell for 2000 gil. They are found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's Crossfield . The player can come here early via a chocobo, as soon as they can access the Tchita Uplands.
The Icecloud Arrows are also included in the bazaar set "Permafrost Bow & Quiver" alongside a Perseus Bow. The set is made from selling four Spiral Incisors, two Antarctic Winds, and seven Ice Crystals. The set costs 17,200 gil. Spiral Incisors can be easily obtained from Vampyrs in the Lhusu Mines, and from Bellwyverns on the Tchita Uplands. Antarctic Winds are obtained from Feral Crocs on the Tchita Uplands, and Ice Crystals are obtained from any ice elementals and from Buers in the Zertinan Caverns, among other sources.
Zodiac[]
In the Zodiac versions, the Icecloud Arrows are not sold anywhere, but sell for 5000 gil. They are found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's Old Elanise Road (50% chance to appear, 40% chance for an item, 5% chance the item treasure is the Icecloud Arrows with the Diamond Armlet equipped), Subterra's Abyssal - North (70% chance to appear, 20% chance for an item, 50% chance the treasure is the Icecloud Arrows without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in Trial Mode Stage 91 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.
The arrows are still included in the "Permafrost Bow & Quiver" bazaar set with the same items and price as before.
Use[]
The Icecloud Arrows set adds 4 points to the bow's power and they make the damage the bow deals ice-elemental, meaning it will do 20% more damage in snowy weather and on snow terrain. They deal double damage to enemies weak to ice. No weather condition diminishes ice damage. Some enemies also resist ice, meaning the player could be better off with the preceding Bamboo Arrows or Assassin's Arrows against these foes. However, against ice-weak enemies, Icecloud Arrows remains a good choice of ammunition for a bow-user. Unlike with the fire-elemental Fiery Arrows, there is no bow that will enhance ice damage like the Burning Bow does with fire damage.
As snow environment amplifies ice damage, the Icecloud Arrows can be good in the Paramina Rift and Feywood, however, many enemies here also resist ice damage. Lightning-type enemies are typically weak to ice damage. Icecloud Arrows can thus be good against the Esper Adrammelech, where the player may prefer ranged weapons, and against Baknamies in the Necrohol of Nabudis.
The arrows are only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using an Archer, albeit the secret Seitengrat can be used without a license.
