The Ice Gigas, also known as the FrGIANT in the Nintendo Entertainment System version, is an enemy in the original Final Fantasy. It belongs to the Gigas branch of enemies, appearing all around the Overworld. This gigas appears often in frigid places, like the Cavern of Ice, and the lower basements of the Chaos Shrine in the past.

Compared to the Fire Gigas, the Ice Gigas has higher HP, but its other stats are lower, making it slightly inferior to its flame counterpart. It will always appears with groups of Winter Wolves. A widespread Fire-based spell will prove effective if used against Ice Gigantes and Winter Wolves.

Etymology

Gigas is a popular term for races of giants in fantasy games. Gigas is a Greek word meaning "giant", originally used to describe the race of Gigantes in Greek mythology and is used in the scientific name, as the specific epithet, of hundreds of species of animals and dozens of plant species to denote their size.
