where "Level" is the caster's current level and "Magical Attack" is their Magic atk stat. This is effectively 0.5x the base magic damage.

Ice can be used by characters with the Ice Materia at level 1. At early levels, it is especially useful against enemies weak to Ice-elemental attacks, but can also be a potent spell to cast on enemies that resist physical attacks, but are more vulnerable to magic generally.
Ice can be amplified by pairing the Ice Materia with Support Materia. The All Materia allows it to hit all enemies, while MP Turbo increases both its damage and MP cost. This can be efficient on Ice due to its low MP cost in general.
At later levels, Ice becomes outclassed by Ice2 and Ice3, both gained from the Ice Materia. It can still be advisable to use Ice in some circumstances if there is a desire to conserve MP, though as a character's max MP improves, its usefulness diminishes. It is also outclassed by Freeze, gained from the Contain Materia.
