Ice element attack
Ice3 is an attack magic spell in Final Fantasy VII. It is granted by the Ice Materia at level three, and is the strongest Ice spell granted by it, above Ice and Ice2. It is also the second-highest Ice-elemental spell, below Freeze, which is granted by the Contain Materia.

Ice3 deals damage in the following formula:

Use[edit | edit source]
Ice3 can be used by characters with the Ice Materia at level 3. It deals significant damage, but comes with an equally significant MP cost, meaning that it should be used sparingly and is best saved for boss battles. As an Ice-elemental spell, it is best used against bosses weak to Ice.
Ice3 can be amplified by pairing the Ice Materia with Support Materia. As it is a highly-damaging spell, pairing it with MP Turbo or Quadra Magic can be useful to further amplify its damage and Magic Counter allows it be used as a counterattack without using up a character's turn. Pairing it with MP Absorb also allows it to be used more economically, though HP Absorb also grants the player greater endurance. Pairing it with All allows the spell to clear groups of enemies, though using Mega All will have the same effect and allow it more options for paired Support Materia. When used with All, Ice3 has a different animation. If the character has multiple Ice Materia linked to different Support Materia, the spell can take on various effects simultaneously.
Ice3 is useful against all enemies that are weak to Ice, or that do not otherwise resist or absorb the element. For normal spellcasting, as the characters' max MP improves, it remains useful, particularly if paired with the right Support Materia. However, against larger targets and bosses, it becomes outclassed by Freeze from the Contain Materia, which deals more damage, has a chance of inflicting Stop, but also has almost double the MP cost.
Ice3 can be cast by Bizarro∙Sephiroth. It is also one of the two offensive spells used by Sephiroth during the Nibelheim Incident flashback sequence, which will always one-shot enemies whenever used by him.
