Ice2 deals damage in the following formula:

where "Level" is the caster's current level and "Magical Attack" is their Magic atk stat. This is effectively 1.25x the base magic damage.

Use

Ice2 can be used by characters with the Ice Materia at level 2. It can be a potent spell if obtained early on, as it can deal considerable damage compared to most other attacks available to the player at this stage outside of Limits. It also has a high MP cost early on, meaning it is best to save it against tougher enemies or bosses, while Ice is used as the primary damaging spell. As an Ice-elemental spell, it is best against enemies weak to Ice.

Ice2 can be amplified by pairing the Ice Materia with Support Materia. These include the All Materia, which allows it to hit all enemies, and MP Turbo, which enhances its damage but also increases its MP cost. The former allows it to clear many groups of enemies, while the latter makes it stronger against single targets. If the character has multiple Ice Materia linked to different Support Materia, the spell can take on various effects simultaneously.

Ice2 becomes outclassed by Ice3 at later levels. However, as characters' max MP increases, it can be used much more frequently, especially if paired with MP Absorb, meaning it overtakes the role of the basic Ice spell. However, as characters improve further, it itself is overtaken by Ice3. Ice3 is also outclassed by Freeze, gained from the Contain Materia.

Ice2 can be used by the enemies SOLDIER:3rd, Scrutin Eye, Yang, Garuda, Boundfat, Grimguard in its defense form, Snow, Killbin, and Turks:Rude during the Gelnika encounter.
