Honoroit Bandarlois is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. He is the page to Emmanellain de Fortemps, the youngest son of Count Edmont de Fortemps.
History[]
Early life[]
A fourteen-year-old boy of Ishgard, Honoroit was born to a poor Elezen family on the wrong side of the Brume. Receiving no true education, he was indentured to a merchant at the age of seven. Upon his ninth nameday fortune smiled upon Honoroit, granting him a chance meeting with Lord Emmanellain de Fortemps in the Jeweled Crozier. The wanton socialite and second son of House Fortemps took the boy in as his ward and began training him in letters and sums. Honoroit was a quick learner, and soon ascended from courier to bookkeeping aide. Realizing now that knowledge would pave the way to status, Honoroit begged Emmanellain to lend him his books, and it was not long before the lowborn boy caught the attention of Count Edmont, was released from his contract with the merchant, and was officially appointed Emmanellain's manservant.
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward[]
Honoroit was met in the Fortemps Manor with the Fortemps family upon the Warrior of Light's arrival alongside Alphinaud Leveilleur and Tataru Taru. He joined the Warrior of Light in Emmanellain's errand of tasks in the Sea of Clouds, where he was to be responsible for Emmanellain's nature and to keep him in check. As the group assisted Lady Laniaitte de Haillenarte and her Rose Knights at Camp Cloudtop, the Warrior of Light found Honoroit to be more competent at scouting patrols than Emmanellain.
When his the native Vanu Vanu tribe kidnapped his lord, Honoroit and the Warrior of Light saved Emmanellain with a timely intervention from Cid Garlond, who flew them away as the primal god Bismarck appeared. Honoroit attempted to tend to his lord's wounded pride.
During a speech delivered by Aymeric de Borel at Falcon's Nest to establish a newfound peace between Ishgard and the dragons, Lord Emmanellain found himself in charge of a small group of knights to keep the peace. After his grave error of giving order to kill an innocent protester, Honoroit ran off to try and help keep calm among the disturbed attendants and protestors, but was attacked by an assailant furious with the order Emmanellain had given. Though injured, Honoroit survived only receiving a visible scar above his left eye, yet his injuries left Emmanellain heavy with guilt over allowing the boy to come to harm.
Honoroit was later met in the city-state of Ul'dah, accompanying his lord on his social tour of Eorzea.[1] He has taken on local Ul'dah clothing to appear more comfortable among the city-state.
At the celebration following the completion of the Firmament, Honoroit celebrated in the crowd alongside other members of House Fortemps.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood[]
Honoroit was met alongside Lord Emmanellain in Camp Dragonhead, where the two had begun their watch over the Fortemps' hold in Coerthas Central Highlands to replace the late Lord Haurchefant Greystone. Honoroit told the Warrior of Light that his lordship wished he could have assisted the Warrior at the battle for Ala Mhigo (but he was secretly happy he had stayed behind in Ishgard).
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker[]
Honoroit makes a minor appearance through a sidequest in Old Sharlayan ("A Literary Delivery"), where a book he wrote about his travel to the Sea of Clouds is delivered to one of the scholars. Babbling Booklover mentions that the book written by a lad of fourteen years is known even in the Far East for its descriptions of the wonders of the Abalathian Sea of Clouds in exquisite detail.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Honoroit is a young Wildwood Elezen with shoulder-length brown hair and bright green eyes. He wears a blue cotton bliaud, white gloves, white trousers, and thigh length brown boots. He has freckles dotted across his cheeks.
In battle he wields a wooden Vintage Bow and Fortemps issued chainmail armor.
Personality[]
Honoroit is a well-spoken boy for his age, eager to please and assist his lord, Emmanellain de Fortemps. Though he often regards his lord as a bit of a fool, he respects Emmanellain and appreciates what he has done to improve his life and education. He is often the "straight man" to Emmanellain's foolish and oftentimes unreliable nature, and is usually able to fulfill the task that Emmanellain was avoiding (or failing) to do.
Behind the scenes[]
A pageboy, or otherwise simply known as a page, was a young child (usually male) who served an adult knight, noble, or governor, assisting them with daily tasks and other responsibilities. Many families of lesser houses would send their children to serve as pages after the age of seven, and eventually become a squire by the age of fourteen. While in most pages were given to higher houses as a sign of respect and servitude to their lords, Emmanellain and Edmont took Honoroit in out of appreciation for the boy's diligence.
A non-playable character named Honoroit was present in the legacy version of Final Fantasy XIV, who was an adult Elezen chocobo merchant. They are not the same character, however, and it does not appear that this merchant is connected to the merchant in Honoroit's backstory.
Honoroit was voiced by the late Archie Lyndhurst in the English version of Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. He is voiced by Tomo Muranaka in the Japanese version.
