Home Sweet Home is the first quest in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, taking place in a flashback of Nibelheim at the start of Chapter 1, "Fall of a Hero". Cloud Strife in Kalm in the present day recounts his story as a SOLDIER in Nibelheim, visiting his hometown alongside Sephiroth and the Shinra Electric Power Company after years of being away.
The quest has four sub-quests for different activities around Nibelheim: First Time in Two Years, Lockhart Residence, The Old Water Tower, and The Inn.
Walkthrough[]
The quest begins with a cutscene and then a battle against a disgorgon, putting the player in control of Sephiroth. Sephiroth is an agile melee attacker whose unique ability, Aura Change, allows him to switch out his unique ability between a number of attacks based on how the battle is going. These can be experimented with for this fight, but are ultimately irrelevant as Sephiroth cannot die here, meaning simply attacking until the disgorgon is defeated will suffice to proceed.
Following the cutscene, the player takes control of Cloud Strife in Nibelheim. This begins the bulk of the quest, which is an exploration section. Exploring and interacting with a few different parts in Nibelheim allows the player to learn more about Cloud's past through his narration. Around the town a number of villagers can be listened in on, but none are consequential aside from the subquests.
First Time in Two Years[]
This subquest is optional and occurs when entering the Strife residence. Upon opening the door, the player will be prompted to choose to view a scene where Cloud visits his mother, Claudia Strife. Selecting "Ugh, fine." after the message will begin the scene. The house cannot be re-entered after.
Lockhart Residence[]
Ether.
This subquest is optional and occurs when entering the Lockhart residence, Tifa Lockhart's home. Upon entering, the player will be prompted to select whether Cloud did visit her home; selecting "...No?" will cause Cloud to not enter, while selecting "Yeah." will proceed.
Inside, the player can view the cat food for Tifa's cat, Scruffy, and enter her room upstairs. In her room, interacting with her closet and answering in the affirmative or negative will lead to dialogue but will not grant items either way, and the piano can be played but at this point will grant no rewards with no music sheets available. Also upstairs, in the far room, an ether can be found in a chest.
The Old Water Tower[]
This subquest occurs upon climbing the water tower in the middle of town. Climbing it will lead to a brief scene as Cloud overlooks the town.
The Inn[]
This is the only mandatory subquest. Entering the Nidhogg Hotel inn and talking to Rashard Zangan in the corner will commence a brief scene. Following this, the player can explore the rest of Nibelheim for anything else, while heading upstairs in the inn will continue the story to the next quest, "The Mission Begins".
