Hiroki Chiba (千葉 広樹, Chiba Hiroki?) is a Japanese video game event director and scenario writer who has been working for Square Enix since 1993. He was the event director of Final Fantasy VIII (1999) and Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- (2006). He made his directorial debut in the Final Fantasy franchise with World of Final Fantasy (2016).
Chiba started helping as an event planner, coming up with the different scenarios and structuring each cinematic. It involved working with many departments, including the sound team and the graphics team, and thus Chiba felt transitioning to directing games was not that major a change as the things he had worked with before had led to directorial work. Chiba has identified Hironobu Sakaguchi, Hiromichi Tanaka (Secret of Mana), and Yoshinori Kitase as people who had taught him many things in game design and creation.[1]
