Template:FFIX Enemies Hilgigars is a boss from Final Fantasy IX. It is fought on the Conde Petie Mountain Path. Cast Float on everyone to protect the party from Earthquake. It is very difficult to steal the Fairy Flute from him, most likely because the Fairy Flute cannot be obtained until much later in the game otherwise. His name is a mistranslation of Hill Gigas.
Strategy
Have Zidane steal while Vivi casts Slow or focuses. Dagger/Eiko can heal and cast Float, targeted on the entire party each turn with L1 or R1. It should be renewed every couple of turns, or else the party may be caught in Hilgigars's Earthquake attack. Once Zidane has stolen all items from Hilgigars, have Vivi cast Bio, Dagger summon Ramuh, and Eiko summon Fenrir, healing when necessary. Cast Float even after stealing all of the items because Earthquake can still knock out the entire party if their health is too low.
As stated above, the Fairy Flute can be a very difficult item to steal. With Bandit equipped, each Steal attempt only has a 1/256 chance of getting it. Many frustrated players will say that it is not worth the time and effort, as it can be obtained later. Equipping Bandit will help slightly.
