Restores 450 HP. The effect decreases if used in the field.
Description
The Hi-Potion is a healing item in Final Fantasy IX that is stronger than the normal Potion. It heals 450 HP to one target in battle and 300 HP on the field when used from the menu. It is compatible with Auto-Potion and Chemist.
Obtain[]
Hi-Potions are sold in shops from Black Mage Village onward for 200 gil apiece. They sell for 100 gil. Stiltzkin also has a Hi-Potion in his item pack for sale when met in Burmecia, Cleyra, Alexandria, and Oeilvert.
The player can find a Hi-Potion in the residence in Lindblum's Business District (door north of pickle seller), Burmecia Arch , Cleyra's Trunk quicksand area , and inside Iifa Tree, in the second inner area at the very bottom .
Hi-Potions can be stolen from Abomination, Adamantoise, Amdusias, Antlion, Armodullahan, Armstrong, Axe Beak, Baku, Basilisk, Blazer Beetle, Bomb, Catoblepas, Core, Clipper, Crawler, Dracozombie, Fang, Feather Circle, Gargoyle, Garuda, Ghost, Gnoll, Grimlock (Blue), Hecteyes, Hedgehog Pie, Ironite, Jabberwock, Ladybug, Land Worm, Mandragora, Mimic, Mistodon, Nymph, Ochu, Plant Spider, Python, Sahagin, Sand Golem, Shell Dragon, Skeleton, Tonberry, Type B, Veteran, Worm Hydra, Wraith, Yeti, Zemzelett, and Zuu.
Hi-Potions can drop from Adamantoise, Anemone, Ash, Basilisk, Black Waltz 1, Bomb, Cactuar, Catoblepas, Core, Dracozombie, Ghost, Griffin, Ironite, Jabberwock, Land Worm, Mimic, Ogre, Sand Scorpion, Seeker Bat, Soldier, Type C, Vepal, Whale Zombie, Yan, Zemzelett, and Zuu.
Mechanics[]
Hi-Potions are used during battle, to restore 450 HP to a target. If the target is undead or Zombiefied, they will incur damage instead. If the user has Chemist active, a Hi-Potion will heal 900 HP in battle. If the user has Auto-Potion, they will consume a Hi-Potion onto themselves automatically when damaged by an enemy as long as there are no Potions in the inventory and the player has at least one Hi-Potion.
When used on the field from the menu, Hi-Potions restore 300 HP.
Use[]
Hi-Potions are useful healing items, much better than Potions. Equipping Chemist makes them even more worthwhile. Auto-Potion can be good especially if the party has no healers, though it can deplete the player's Hi-Potion stock quickly. In some versions of Final Fantasy IX Remastered, equipping both Chemist and Auto-Potion at the same time can be glitchy.
When the player has a healer, White Magic is generally better than using Hi-Potions as healing spells can be multi-targeted.
