Hermes Sandals is an accessory in Final Fantasy XII that gives the user automatic Haste status, increasing the rate their ATB gauge fills by 50%. In the Zodiac versions, they also give +5 stat bonus to the wearer's Strength stat.

Obtain[]

Original[]

In the original PlayStation 2 versions, the sandals can be bought for 20,000 gil in the Barheim Passage after obtaining the Treaty-Blade. They are also a rare steal from Necrophobes. They can be made in the bazaar in the "Wind Walkers" set by selling 33 Gysahl Greens (can be bought from shops at the Clan Shop in Rabanastre [original version only], the Skyferry shops, and from Dyce in Balfonheim) and 15 Arcana (enemies drop them once the player has the Canopic Jar from defeating Gil Snapper, Orthros and Trickster).

Finally, the sandals are obtained in the Hunt Club quest, by giving Atak 5 trophies, Blok 5 trophies, and Stock 15 trophies and then buying the sandals from the Shifty-Eyed Merchant's store.

Zodiac[]

In the updated Zodiac versions, the Hermes Sandals can't be bought from normal shops, but do sell for 10,000 gil. The sandals are found in treasures in Pharos - First Ascent's Wellspring Labyrinth (100%), Subterra's Abyssal - North (70% chance to appear, 80% the treasure is gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Hermes Sandals without the Diamond Armlet), and in Necrohol of Nabudis's Hall of Effulgent Light (25% chance to appear, is always the sandals). They are also found in Trial Mode stages 90 and 97 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

They can still rarely be stolen from Necrophobes, but also from Cúchulainn in Trial Mode Stage 41 (3%) and Trickster in Trial Mode Stage 57 (10%).

The sandals can still be made in the bazaar as the "Wind Walkers" set with the same items as before.

Use[]

Having automatic Haste status is useful in making battles flow faster; though the player can replicate the effect with Self:Haste or Ally:Hastega or similar gambits, having the accessory equipped means the player can enter any encounter with Haste already in place and does not need to waste turns and MP for casting. However, the spells override Slow, whereas with the accessory automatic Haste and Slow simply cancel each other out and the character's ATB fills with normal speed. The accessory is further beneficial in the Zodiac versions in giving a Strength boost on top of the Haste effect. It is worth trying to procure the items to make the accessory at the bazaar. Because wearing Hermes Sandals already cancels out Slow, it is worthwhile to wear them over the Sash unless needing the additional effects added to Sash in the Zodiac versions.

Aletap Rumors[]

Everyone likes the man who gets his work done quick. That's why no one used to like me, I suppose, and the very reason why I'll never let go of my Hermes Sandals. I hear it only takes gysahl greens to make them, but given their price, there's gotta be more to 'em than just some tasty greens!

Gyle, Arcanist

Etymology[]

Hermes Sandals are named after the Greek God of messengers and thieves, Hermes.
