Helix are living magic amplifiers that appear in the fight against Ultimecia junctioned to Griever in Final Fantasy VIII. When they are present in the battle, Ultimecia has access to a number of powerful attacks.
Ultimecia will occasionally summon Helix enemies one at a time in the final boss battle's third stage. Helix enemies aren't dangerous by themselves; they may fire a Twin Laser counterattack every few rounds but the damage is of little consequence. Once one appears, however, it gives Ultimecia the ability to use more powerful spells like Ultima and Meteor. In the event that Ultimecia can summon two, she gains access to the skill Great Attractor, one of her most powerful attacks. They are quite evasive and difficult to damage unless afflicted with Vit 0. They automatically disappear once Ultimecia loses about 65% of her maximum HP.

Etymology[]
[view·edit·purge]A helix (pl: helixes or helices) is a type of smooth space curve, i.e. a curve in three-dimensional space. It has the property that the tangent line at any point makes a constant angle with a fixed line called the axis. Helices are important in biology, as the DNA molecule is formed as two intertwined complementary antiparallel helices, and many proteins have alpha helices in what is known as their secondary structures. The word helix comes from the Greek word ἕλιξ, "twisted, curved".
