The leader of a hedgehog pie pack. This self-styled king wears a toy crown it picked up in the slums. It attacks by charging into foes with the spines on its back, and by casting spells.

Enemy Intel

Hedgehog Pie King is an enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake, fought by Cloud and Aerith in Chapter 8, "Budding Bodyguard", as part of the "Kids on Patrol" odd job. In battle, the king is joined by two hedgehog pies, and summons more when his minions are defeated, also bestowing its underlings with buffs. It is distinguishable from the regular hedgehog pies by its blue coloration, the crown it wears and the scars on its belly.

Hedgehog pie king can also be fought in the Corneo Colosseum, in the "vs. Team Payback" challenge.

Battle[]

The hedgehog pie king is a unique, larger, and more powerful variant of the hedgehog pie. It is fought alongside other hedgehog pies, and will always start the fight by buffing them and itself with Barrier Barrier, Manaward Manaward, and Regen Regen. Like the regular hedgehog pies, the king bounces on the player characters dealing physical damage. It can also put the party to Sleep Sleep by releasing a cloud of sleeping gas, and also cast Slow Slow.

Strategy[]

Both Cloud and Aerith should equip Ice Materia Ice Materia, paired with Elemental Materia Elemental Materia on Cloud's weapon. Aerith could pair hers with Magnify Materia Magnify Materia or Synergy Materia Synergy Materia. The pies' Bounce attacks must be avoided or guarded against to prevent stunning; countering in Punisher Mode can be used, but requires proper timing, as the bounce is a multi-hit attack, meaning the player should counter the last hit to prevent being interrupted.

The smaller minions can be dispatched first. Cloud can use Triple Slash while Aerith casts Arcane Ward. The party can lay into the hedgehog pie king with Blizzard Blizzard or Blizzara Blizzara to stagger it, then burst it down with Cloud, such as Punisher Mode and Braver. The player can cast Barrier Barrier on Aerith to give her some extra protection, though she is better off staying further away from the action whereas Cloud takes the pies head on. They player can focus on the enemies that don't have buffs to avoid wasting ATB and MP.

Hard Mode[]

On the hard difficulty, the king and its underlings are more aggressive and durable. The Ice + Elemental materia combo is still effective on Cloud, especially when used with Triple Slash. Subversion Materia Subversion Materia can be useful to cast Breach Breach to remove their buffs and defeat them quicker. Aerith can cast Blizzaga Blizzaga inside Arcane Ward to defeat the hedgehog pie king, paired with HP Absorption Materia HP Absorption Materia or MP Absorption Materia MP Absorption Materia for sustainability.

Defeating the hedgehog pie king rewards Aerith the Telluric Scriptures Vol. VI.
