The Heavy Coat is a mid-ranked light armor in Final Fantasy XII that boosts the wearer's defense by 14 and HP by 120.

Obtain[]

Original[]

The Heavy Coat is sold for 1,400 gil in Rabanastre after defeating Belias, from Dyce outside Tomb of Raithwall, and in Jahara.

It is found in a treasure in the rainy Giza Plains' - Starfall Field (near to the exit to Westersand; 50% chance to appear, 50% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Heavy Coat without the Diamond Armlet equipped Map 13 Giza Plains Rains). It is a rare steal from the Zaghnal and the hunt reward for Rocktoise.

Zodiac[]

The Heavy Coat is sold for 1,400 gil in Rabanastre after defeating Belias, and from Dyce in Nam-Yensa Sandsea, outside Tomb of Raithwall, and Balfonheim Port. It is found in a treasure Nam-Yensa Sandsea's Simoon Bluff (75% chance to appear, 30% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Heavy Coat without the Diamond Armlet equipped), and Tomb of Raithwall's Southfall Passage (80% chance to appear, 30% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Heavy Coat without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in the Trial Mode Stage 42 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

It is still a rare steal from Zaghnal.

Use[]

The Heavy Coat is a mid ranked light armor, giving 14 defense and 120 HP, and is useful to equip over any inferior equipment the party may have. However, in the original version where everyone can wear any equipment piece, the more expensive heavy armor, Golden Armor, or the mystic armor Traveler's Vestment, may be a preferable purchase if the player can stretch their funds to them, as the HP boost from light armor is not usually worth prioritizing over heavy armor that boosts Strength for physical attackers, or mystic armor that boosts Magick Power for spellcasters.

In the Zodiac versions, Machinist, Monk, Archer, and Shikari can equip the Heavy Coat, and so it is only useful to buy if the player has chosen these License Boards for their party. In The Zodiac Age, after fighting Belias, the player can choose two License Boards per party member, and so more party members can choose from the potentially more useful heavy and mystic armor sets.
