Heat is a status in Final Fantasy IX. If the afflicted executes any direct command, including counterattacks or reactions (like Auto-Potion or Return Magic), they are instantly defeated. Heat wears off on its own if the afflicted does not act for long enough. The afflicted glows orange.

The player can use Heat to defeat susceptible enemies nigh instantly, like Yan, but the player only has few methods of inflicting it and these methods' infliction-rates are low. Heat is more often a grave detriment to the player, and it is best to master Body Temp and equip it in battles where the enemy may inflict Heat.

Mechanics[]

Heat wears off faster the higher the afflicted's Spirit. First, a time limit is established by multiplying the target's Spirit by the base limit of the status.

Duration: (60 - Spirit) * 160

The time limit will decrease by a rate of deduction dictated by the target's current status (Haste, Slow, or none). When the time limit expires, the status is removed. Rates of deduction are dictated by the Battle Speed setting chosen in the Config menu.

Heat and Freeze cannot coexist on the same target.
