The flow of time for the character is hastened, reducing time required to act. The effect is temporary.
Description
Haste is a status in Final Fantasy XII that causes the unit's ATB gauge to charge 50% faster for a duration, making them able to take action more frequently. It stacks with the even superior Berserk status. Other factors that affect charge time are the unit's speed stat, Swiftness licenses, and the current Battle Speed setting.
Bestowing Haste on a character with Slow overrides the Slow status, but a character with the Hermes Sandals only cancels out the two effects and ATB charges at normal speed. Haste nor Slow affect the rate other statuses expire or tick.
The formula for the duration is:
Haste is overall useful even if it does not grant that many more turns over not having it, due to not affecting animation speed or "cooldown" between abilities. Haste is worth having in lengthy and tough battles, like against bosses and marks.
Abilities[]
Item | Baltoro Seed, Hastega Mote |
---|---|
Spell | Haste & Hastega (Time Magicks) |
Weapon | Caliper |
The Hermes Sandals accessory gives permanent Haste to the wearer; it does not immunize against Slow but will cancel out the effect.
In the original PlayStation 2 version, Stamp can transfer positive statuses as well as negative to any target and thus can be used to bestow Haste when the user has it; this was changed in the Zodiac versions so only ailments can be transferred with Stamp to enemies.

Use[]
Haste lets the affected act more often, making it generally useful. It is especially beneficial to have Haste and Berserk on the same character. However, since Haste only affects the ATB gauge speed and not animation speed, combos, or the "cooldown time" after using an ability, it mainly makes a difference for physical attackers using their fastest weapons. If most damage comes from combos, then the relevance of Haste is also diminished, as the ATB does not charge in-between.
Haste would be beneficial for those wielding the Wyrmhero Blade.
