HP Absorption materia is a Support Materia Support Materia in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It can be linked with certain Magic Materia Magic Materia, Complete Materia Complete Materia, and Command Materia Command Materia to recover HP after landing an attack from the linked materia. It will heal based on a percentage of the amount of damage dealt.

HP Absorption materia can be paired with almost all offensive magic materia, with the exception of Gravity Materia Gravity Materia. It can be paired too with most attacking command materia. New to Rebirth, it also works with some complete materia.

An MP-equivalent, MP Absorption Materia MP Absorption Materia, can also be obtained.

The materia returns from Final Fantasy VII Remake, with the percentage numbers slightly tweaked.

Use[]

HP Absorption materia allows certain spells and abilities to heal the user after hitting. This can be very ATB- and MP-efficient, improving the sustainability of the attacker, and can be particularly helpful in solo gauntlets, such as in the Chadley Combat Simulator.

HP Absorption materia is best paired with magic materia and auto-abilities if the player is using them. Particularly with spells that target an enemy's elemental weakness (such as Lightning Materia Lightning Materia), and on spells that can otherwise be boosted by pairing the same materia with Magic Focus Materia Magic Focus Materia or Magnify Materia Magnify Materia. When the user in question boosts their spell's strength further by maximizing their Magic Attack Magic Attack, and breaks the damage limit with Genji Gloves Genji Gloves, this allows HP Absorption to potentially fully heal the user in question. Pairing HP Absorption with a materia that is also paired with Synergy Materia Synergy Materia allows the caster to replenish HP passively.

Though HP Absorption materia can also be paired with certain command materia, such as Jump Materia Jump Materia or Enemy Skill Materia Enemy Skill Materia, it will heal to a lesser extent than it would when paired with spells. When paired with enemy skill materia, Self-Destruct can be abused if the user has immunity to instant death and Reprieve; the character will be left with 1 HP after dealing massive damage to everything around them, the HP Absorption will top them back up, and the user's limit gauge is greatly filled.

HP Absorption materia can also be paired with Auto-Weapon Ability Materia Auto-Weapon Ability Materia and Auto-Unique Ability Materia Auto-Unique Ability Materia, letting a character who is not actively being controlled passively heal HP by automatically using physical weapon attacks (like Cloud's Braver) and unique abilities (like Barret's Overcharge) and without expending MP. A character equipped with Auto-Weapon Ability + HP Absorption, combined with Darkside Materia Darkside Materia boosts the potency of the abilities while negating the HP loss of Darkside. Barret can use his Lifesaver with an HP Absorption materia on Auto-unique Ability to get HP back on his Overcharges, as he will automatically use Overcharge whenever it is available. Meanwhile, casting Discharge from enemy skill materia every time the character generates an ATB charge regenerates HP for the damage that the Discharge skill did in damage; Discharge only needs to be cast once and will auto trigger each time a new ATB charge is generated.

Aerith is a strong candidate for making use of HP Absorption materia with spellcasting, due to her attributes and her Arcane Ward. Yuffie's respectable magic attack attributes and Doppelganger also make her a strong candidate for this use, as does Cloud's high magic attack attribute. Auto-Weapon Ability + HP Absorption on Yuffie triggers when her Doppelganger attacks even when the player is controlling her; when not controlling her and she has Doppelganger, the HP Absorption effect will trigger twice per weapon ability used via Auto-Weapon Ability.
