Story[edit | edit source]
Brandt and Yunita arrive in Guera after meeting Krinjh and obtaining the Merkmal, hoping that the King will be able to free Horne from its curse. However, the city is under its own curse, cast by the Sand Demon, that bars any resident from leaving the city, and any travelers from finding it without the guidance of the Merkmal.
The King of Guera offers to make a deal with the party: in return for defeating the Sand Demon, he will see if there is any way to help Horne. While the party does free Guera from its curse, the king cannot fix Horne, for its curse is of a different kind of magic. He then recommends that Brandt and Yunita travel to Arbor to ask the local Queen for aid. Then, in the dead of night, Brandt leaves Yunita in the inn, heading to Arbor himself. However, he is unknowingly followed by Aire, in cat form.
After being sent decades into the past, the party goes Guera to meet with Krinjh and Ariadne. During this time Krinjh and Ariadne brought a seedling from the Great Tree to Guera in order for the country to prosper but caused Ariadne's exile from Arbor. The King of Guera orders Krinjh to return to the Moonlight Tower and await further orders. After saving Krinjh at the Moonlight Tower, the party goes to the Quicksand Castle and use the Merkmal on the King who takes on the form of the demon, Asmodeus. When successfully defeated, Krinjh gives the party the Shield of Light. He and Ariadne become rulers of Guera leading the nation to prosperity. At the end of the game, the party goes to Guera and return the Shield of Light to them.

Musical themes[edit | edit source]
"Magic Kingdom Guera" (魔法王国グーラ, Mahou Oukoku Gūra?) is the location theme for the Kingdom of Guera. There is also a "nighttime" (夜, Yoru?) version. Both tracks can be found in the original soundtrack as Tracks 15 and 16 respectively, and are composed by Naoshi Mizuta.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
Like the other towns in the game, Guera takes its name from the Latin names of the seven deadly sins.
Gula is the Latin word for the sin of gluttony.
