The Guardian Tree is an elder tree in the Great Forest of Moore in Final Fantasy V. It houses the Crystals of Galuf's World.
Story
Inside the Guardian Tree, Bartz and his friends encounter the four Crystals particular to Galuf's world, each protected by a seal. Exdeath manipulates the seals into attacking, forcing the party to destroy them. Exdeath appears in the tree himself and uses the Crystals' power to attack the party. Galuf saves the others but one of the Crystals shatters, and Galuf expends the last of his life energy fighting Exdeath. He dies, but the Guardian Tree lends Galuf's spirit the strength to speak to Krile and pass on his abilities to her so she can take his place.
Exdeath takes the remaining three Crystals to his castle. He destroys them after a battle with the party, which merges the two worlds and the Great Forest of Moore amalgamates with the Desert of Shifting Sands of Bartz's World. The trees die save for a small grove around the Guardian Tree.
Exdeath uses the power of the Void to consume Castle Tycoon, and the Light Warriors gather at the Guardian Tree to remember their fallen loved ones and resolve to fight on. On a second visit, Tycoon's wind drake arrives, having saved Lenna from the Void. The wind drake sacrifices himself to reveal Melusine, an evil spirit from the Interdimensional Rift that possessed Lenna, and she rejoins the party after Melusine's defeat.
After Exdeath has been felled and the Void is gone, Krile visits the Guardian Tree on the anniversary of Galuf's death and lays flowers at its roots before being is joined by the others. Galuf's spirit makes flowers bloom around the tree.

Etymology
The Guardian Tree is based on the concept of a world tree. world tree is a motif present in several religions and mythologies, particularly Indo-European religions, Siberian religions, and Native American religions. The world tree is represented as a colossal tree which supports the heavens, thereby connecting the heavens, the terrestrial world, and, through its roots, the underworld. It may also be strongly connected to the motif of the tree of life.
