Guardian Cross was a smartphone game for iOS and Android, created by Square Enix. It was released on September 13, 2012 for iOS, and on August 5, 2013 for Android.
Although some reviews were not complimentary, it has become popular and currently has a multitude of dedicated players.
On November 10, 2016, Square Enix announced that Guardian Cross would end its services and shut down as of January 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. (PST), due to "difficulty in offering satisfactory to the players". At this point in time the player population was in great decline, likely further motivating Square Enix's decision.
On September 9, 2016, Guardian Codex was announced to be the spiritual successor of Guardian Cross, primarily using many of the characters (Guardians) that made their first appearance in Guardian Cross. Guardian Codex ended service and shut down July 30, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. (PST).
Gameplay[]
The player must capture creatures to form a deck of cards they use to battle other players. Battles are turn-based matches, while capturing creatures is a first person shooter minigame. Many Final Fantasy themed cards are featured.
