Battle[]
The Grenadier is a support-fire type of enemy who mostly remains in the backline using
Grenade Shot to supplement the main infantry, and will rarely, if ever, engage in close-range combat. Grenade Shot deals heavy area-of-effect damage and will flinch characters, leaving them vulnerable. He can deploy a mine onto the battlefield that will detonate in 10 seconds or when the player makes contact with it.
Much like the vast majority of human-type enemies, the Grenadier is weak against
Fire. He is weak and vulnerable on his own, having lower HP and stats compared to the Security Officer. Grenade Shot is a telegraphed ability with a slow moving arc projectile, being easy to avoid.
Hard mode[]
On the hard difficulty the Grenadier will use Grenade Shot more often.
Strategy[]
Grenadiers can pose a threat when the player is fighting multiple enemies, as they will remain safe on the backline shooting grenades. Ideally, they should be the first enemies to be dispatched, to avoid the support-fire. The player can close the gap to them and lay into them with Cloud's Punisher Mode and use Fire.

Behind the scenes[]
The Grenadier seems to be based on Grenadiers, an enemy that appeared in the 1996 Aeris demo of Final Fantasy VII, both boasting a yellow color scheme and appearing in roughly the same early portion of the story. The yellow Grenadiers was the only enemy from the demo to not appear in the final version of Final Fantasy VII, but the Grenade Combatant, which has the same Japanese name (擲弾兵), appears later in the Shinra Bldg., albeit now with a blue color scheme.
