Greinfarr Redblade is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV who originally appeared during Ul'dah's main story and during the Gladiator questline in the original Final Fantasy XIV. He is the son of the former owner of Ul'dah's Coliseum and was a close friend to Niellefresne.
History[]
Final Fantasy XIV (version 1.0)[]
Greinfarr was one of Niellefresne's companions during a parade in Ul'dah situated to make them look heroic to the townspeople. The situation got out of hand when a goobbue broke free from its restraints and mortally wounded a man named Warburton.[2] Later, Thancred unmasked Niellefresne's plan. Corguevais revealed the truth to Ascilia, Warburton's daughter, and tried to take the girl back to Ala Mhigo.
Niellefresne's group intercepted the flight of Corguevais, who fled after summoning a horde of coblyns, abandoning Ascilia to the beasts. While Popokkuli and Seserukka chased after Corguevais, Greinfarr remained to defend the group. They discovered that Warburton had important information regarding Ul'dah's future, so Niellefresne resorted to necromancy in an attempt to revive him, but was murdered by a mysterious figure before being able to do so.[3]
In his glory days, Greinfarr emerged victorious against J'moldva, the Hellfire Phoenix, during the final of a tournament. During the battle, the audience got out of control and J'moldva, considered a traitor to her people, ended up seriously injured. With no choice, Greinfarr carried her to Gridania in search of treatment, where she found a new life.[4]
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn[]
An anonymous customer ordered a gift sword for Greinfarr at Naldiq & Vymelli's. Faezahr summoned Greinfarr to collect the weapon personally. Greinfarr was intrigued by the gesture, but upon receiving an enigmatic message, he identified his client as Hellfire Phoenix, who he thought died in the Calamity years ago. He accepted the sword, proclaiming that one day he would be at the top of the Coliseum and do justice, and left without meeting J'moldva.[5]
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood[]
The adventurer, F'lhaminn Qesh, Popokkuli and Seserukka investigated Niellefresne's murder when they met Greinfarr again.[6] The sword used to kill Niellefresne, Heartstrike, still prevented his body from decomposing. With assistance from Severian, the curse was eventually lifted, and the group bid farewell to their fallen friend.
