Final Fantasy Wiki

Gravity is an element in Final Fantasy VII. It is the second rarest element in the game, as it only exists in the form of the Demi line of spells (and items) as well as the Enemy Skill Laser. Gravity abilities deal damage as a percentage of the target's HP, capped at 9999 damage. This also means that Gravity abilities do not tend to work on bosses, however, they do work on the superboss Emerald Weapon. Gravity abilities tend to be effective against flying or otherwise airborne enemies. Not every percentage-based ability is Gravity-elemental.

Use[]

Gravity as an element only matters if the enemy can be hit by HP% attacks. As most bosses are immune to the status, it is worthless to use Gravity during most boss fights, with the notable exceptions of Bottomswell, Midgar Zolom, Rapps, and Godo. Bottomswell is fought before the player acquires the Gravity Materia, and the Materia is likely to be unavailable when fighting Rapps, but they may be able to obtained Graviballs from the Deenglow in the Train Graveyard during the Midgar portion of the game, or T/S Bombs from the Flapbeats in the Gold Saucer Area. Gravity can also be useful against Emerald Weapon, especially with W-Magic.

If used on any enemy weak to Gravity, as long as it deals 50% HP damage normally, it will instantly defeat these enemies, or deal the full 9999 damage.

Protection against Gravity is generally unneeded, as it is rare for enemies to use it. However, it might be useful in the battles against Gorkii, Godo, and Bizarro∙Sephiroth.
