Reduces the target's HP by 3/4.

Description

Graviga, also known as Quartr,[1][2] is an Attack spell in Final Fantasy VI. It is the basic gravity-based spell that, when successful, reduces the current HP of a single target to one quarter. It ignores reflect, but will fail against targets immune to death. Terra learns the spell naturally, while other party members learn it through magicite.

Gravity is also an added ability of the Gravity Rod.

Obtained[]

Terra learns Graviga naturally upon reaching level 75, but will likely learn the spell much earlier. Other party members must learn it through magicite. It is taught by Midgardsormr at a rate of x1, and by Diabolos at a x5 rate in versions with Diabolos available. Because these magicite are not available until the World of Ruin, and Terra will likely not reach 75 before then, the spell is most likely unavailable in the World of Balance.

Use[]

Graviga can be used against any enemy without immunity to instant death, and will quarter their HP. Because more powerful enemies are immune to death, and Graviga can only be used on single targets for a very high MP cost, it is rare that one will prefer to use Graviga over Flare or Holy, which have slightly smaller MP costs and likely deal as much if not more damage.

Though Graviga is an Attack spell, it is unaffected by the party members' Magic stat or equipment. Graviga can be taught to any party member, but is a luxury. As party members equipping the Gold Hairpin or Celestriad relics (which reduce MP costs) will be able to use the spell more frequently, and these relics are equipped by spellcasters, slight priority should be given to spellcasters, but it is a luxury either way.

Graviga outclasses Gravity, and is outclassed by Gravija in versions with the spell. Ultimately, however, offensive spells at a similar MP cost will be able to do the same if not more damage in most cases.
