The Grand Bolts are the ultimate ammunition for crossbows in Final Fantasy XII, but unlike most other bolts, have no ailment to inflict upon targets. Crossbows cannot be equipped without owning some kind of bolts. Owning the Grand Bolts means the player can use an unlimited amount, and bolts do not need a license to be equipped alongside a crossbow. The bolts are metallic for the purposes of the magnetize debuff present in the Vinuskar and Ultima boss battles.

The Grand Bolts are not sold in shops, but are found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's The Terraced Bank and Old Elanise Road . The player can come to Cerobi Steppe early via a chocobo from the Tchita Uplands.
The bolts are made in the bazaar set "Piercing Bolts" that costs 15,000 gil and is made by selling two Wraths of the Gods and Ring Wyrm Livers, as well as three Capricorn Gems. Wraths of Gods are poached or obtained a monograph drop from Pandoras, an insect/mimic-type enemy found in the Lhusu Mines and the Necrohol of Nabudis. Ring Wyrm Livers are poached or obtained as a monograph drop from the Shield Wyrms on the Cerobi Steppe and on the Nabreus Deadlands. Capricorn Gems are obtained from various enemies, such as the Crusader in the Nabreus Deadlands and Pharos.

The Grand Bolts set is not available in shops but sells for 8000 gil.
The Grand Bolts are found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's Crossfield (20% chance to appear, 50% chance for an item, 5% chance the item treasure is the Grand Bolts with the Diamond Armlet equipped).
The bolts are also rarely stolen from the Helvinek in the Trial Mode Stage 51. They are also available through the Hunt Club quest alongside the Tula crossbow by giving 25 Rare Game trophies to Atak with one trophy each to Blok and Stok on the Phon Coast Hunters' Camp. Afterward, the crossbow and bolts can be purchased from the Shifty-Eyed Merchant nearby for 104,000 gil.
The bolts are still made in the bazaar set "Piercing Bolts" for the same items as before but for a much cheaper price: 1,680 gil.
Use[]
The Grand Bolts add 4 points to the crossbow's power, the most of any bolts, but unlike most other bolt sets, do not hold an ailment. The Grand Bolts are the player's strongest bolts and so worth using unless the player wants an ailment-inducing bolt set. The player could use the earlier bolts for their effects and then swap to their strongest bolts after the ailment they were after sticks.
The bolts are only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using a Time Battlemage.
