Battle[]

Much like wererats, gorgers are among the most basic enemies in the game. While not particularly dangerous or challenging, they are an early example of the binding mechanic where some enemies cling onto the player character preventing them from acting, prompting the player to switch characters and attack the enemy to release the bound party member. Gorgers mainly use blockable physical attacks, but also blow bubbles that may inflict Poison Poison; the ailment can be healed with Chakra (Tifa starts with one), Esuna Esuna, or Antidotes.

When fought at the Abandoned Talagger Factory at the Sector 7 Slums during Chapter 3, "Home Sweet Slum", the gorgers will often climb walls and ceilings and be out of reach for the player to attack. While hanging on the walls, they'll use Poison Bubble from a distance, and eventually come down, either by climbing down or by leaping at the player.

Much like most of the biological creatures, Gorgers are weak to Ice Ice.

Strategy[]

Gorgers can be easily dispatched with normal attacks. Feast should be interrupted with abilities or dodged. Cloud can simply use Operator Mode's Square hold attack to sweep them easily.

During Chapter 3, when the gorgers are climbing walls, the can hit them with magic in order to make them fall down.

In INTERmission, Yuffie can quickly defeat them with Ice Ninjutsu followed by Throw and Windstorm.

Hard Mode[]

On the hard difficulty, they still pose little to no threat to the player. Cloud can quickly dispatch with Triple Slash while having Elemental Materia Elemental Materia linked with Ice Materia Ice Materia in his weapon.
