Battle[]

Gold Dragon is one of the most powerful dragons, and has an affinity with Thunder. They can be farmed for HP-increasing Golden Apples in the PS versions on up. They counter any attack with Entangle, which has a chance to inflict Paralyze on a character, and can also attack using the deadly Blitz move, which can take off one tenth of a character's max HP each hit. They are not immune to Tornado.

They can appear alone, in groups of two, or one with a Silver Dragon.

Strategy[]

Using Tornado and then using a simple physical attack will defeat them quickly. Bahamut and Leviathan also work well against them.

Etymology[]

A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, which is featured in the myths of many cultures.

In the older translations, Gold Dragon is called King-Ryu. King is a mistranslation of Kin. Kin is Japanese for "gold" while Ryu is Japanese for "Dragon". Ryū (?, ?, or りゅう?) is Japanese for "dragon". This is often used to specifically refer to a Japanese dragon.

Metallic dragon is a classification of dragon in Dungeons & Dragons where they are of good alignment, and their deity is Bahamut. Gold dragons are the most powerful of the metallic dragons and the most dedicated to defeating evil. The early Final Fantasy series derived a lot of influence of Dungeons & Dragons.
